LEGO Tribute to Tokyo's Nakagin Capsule Tower Revealed

Japan’s futuristic vision has long captured imaginations, and the Nakagin Capsule Tower was a prime example of that. Until its demolition a few years ago, this architectural marvel in Tokyo inspired many. Now, fan builder Ids de Jong has brought it back to life in LEGO form. This isn't an official LEGO set, mind you, but a detailed fan creation that debuted at Skaerbaek Fan Weekend.

The build captures the tower's iconic look with impressive detail. It’s illuminated with lights from all angles, giving it that perfect brooding, dystopian sci-fi ambience that many fans love. De Jong has cleverly used elements from the real-world building to ensure it’s instantly recognisable, especially the unique capsules that give the tower its name. You can almost imagine graffiti artists scaling it, adding to that urban decay aesthetic.

The top section stands out with its angular shape and a dark, rusted colour, which contrasts sharply with the lighter whites and yellows used elsewhere. The brick-built Japanese signage is a particular highlight, showcasing excellent building techniques. Eagle-eyed fans might even spot some printed parts borrowed from an early LEGO Star Wars set, a clever nod to other LEGO creations. The Brothers Brick shared photos of this build and its proud builder, Jake, from last year's Skaerbaek event, proving this tribute has been a long time coming.

While this is a fan build and not an official release, it’s a compelling example of what LEGO fans can achieve. It sparks the imagination and reminds us of the bold architectural statements Japan has made. If LEGO ever decided to release an official set based on such a building, it would surely be a conversation starter.

No official Indian pricing or availability details exist for this fan build, as it's not a retail product. If it were to be released as an official set, expect a price point likely comparable to other large-scale architectural or display models. That would be roughly the cost of 15 months of Netflix Premium. Keep an eye on MyBrickHouse and Toycra for any potential future official releases inspired by such iconic architecture. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

On that bombshell, bubyee.
