Your wallet already knows what’s coming. Christmas sets are always a gamble, and LEGO’s 40958 Christmas Stocking is no exception. It’s a 342-piece display piece that looks like it’s about to burst with festive treats, including a gingerbread tree, candy cane, and a nutcracker figure. The design itself is quite attractive, standing about 24cm tall and featuring a hinged support for shelf display or a loop for hanging.

The main talking point, besides the price, is the nutcracker minifigure. This is only the second LEGO has produced, following a 2022 Collectible Minifigure. While it boasts the expected tall hat and dual-moulded legs, the torso print is a recycled design from a Series 23 holiday elf. It’s a shame, as nutcrackers usually sport military-style uniforms, and this torso doesn't quite capture that. It’s a decent figure, but not the showstopper it could have been.

Now, about that price. This set carries an MRP of ₹3,300. For 342 pieces, that’s a steep cost per piece, well above what we typically see for seasonal sets. It feels like a lot of money for what amounts to a decorative item, especially when you consider the recycled torso on the minifigure. Unless you’re a hardcore collector of Christmas-themed LEGO or absolutely must have this specific stocking, you might find better value elsewhere in LEGO’s holiday offerings. The build is straightforward, but the part count doesn't justify the price tag, making it a tough sell for anyone watching their budget.

Official LEGO India MRP ₹3,300. No live store prices yet, so keep an eye on Toycra and LEGO. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.in. This is roughly the cost of 16 months of Spotify Premium.

The build is functional, designed to be displayed prominently, but the overall value proposition is questionable due to the high price point. It’s a nice idea, a festive addition to a LEGO collection, but the expense makes it difficult to recommend wholeheartedly. You’re paying a premium for the holiday theme and the novelty of a second LEGO nutcracker, rather than for a wealth of bricks or an innovative building experience.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
