LEGO tribute to The Shape of Water: Is the fan build worth the (unknown) price?

Your chai is cooling, and your bank balance is already bracing for another LEGO splurge. A fan‑built tribute to Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water just landed on the blogosphere, and your wallet is already nervous.

French builder Keyser Bricks has taken the Oscar‑winning romance and turned it into a brick‑by‑brick homage. The build captures the Cold War ambience with a tangle of pipes, cables, and a sleek tank that houses the amphibious creature. It’s not a superhero showdown or a galaxy‑far‑away saga; it’s a quiet, cinematic moment rendered in plastic.

What makes this tribute stand out is the attention to period detail. The lab’s metal scaffolding, the muted colour palette, and the way the fish‑man’s tank glistens under imagined fluorescent lights all feel right out of the movie set. Keyser’s execution shows that even niche films can get the LEGO vignette treatment, and the result is oddly satisfying for anyone who loves both cinema and bricks.

Because this is a fan creation, there’s no official SKU, no retail packaging, and no announced price from LEGO’s catalogue. That means the usual price‑check ritual is replaced by speculation. If the build ever crosses into an official release, the cost will likely reflect the piece count and the specialised elements used – which could push the price into the upper‑mid range for collectors.

For now, the tribute lives on the builder’s own website and on social media. Import‑only fans will need to keep an eye on niche marketplaces or wait for a potential limited‑edition release. Until then, the only way to get your hands on it is to order the video instructions and source the parts yourself – a route that adds both time and extra cash to the equation.

If you’re willing to chase a fan‑made set across borders, prepare for the import price to be a real test for your savings. Otherwise, it might be best to let this romantic brick‑scene stay on the screen.

No Indian store prices yet. Based on typical fan‑tribute pricing, expect this to land somewhere around ₹22,000–25,000 if it ever gets an official release. If it ever gets an official release, expect a 4–6 week lag from the global launch. That's roughly 14 months of Spotify Premium. MyBrickHouse and Toycra are the stores to watch. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

Verdict: IMPORT ONLY. Not in Indian stores — grey market or wait.

On that bombshell, bubyee.
