LEGO SpongeBob Patrick Star Minifigure Headpiece Cracking Issue Reported Ahead of Launch
Your wallet is probably already sweating over the new SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom set, but now there's another reason to pause. Reports are surfacing that the Patrick Star minifigure in the upcoming LEGO 11386 set might have a critical flaw: his large headpiece is cracking. This is not ideal.
Jay’s Brick Blog, a reputable LEGO news source, shared their own experience with a hairline crack developing on their Patrick Star minifigure. They noticed the issue after the set’s initial review period, suggesting it might be a problem that appears over time or with certain early batches. Another early reviewer, Brickset, apparently experienced a much more dramatic crack on their copy.
The suspected cause points to potential issues with the mould or excess tension when the headpiece is attached to the minifigure torso. It’s particularly odd because the crack is often hidden when the head is on the body, only becoming visible when removed. This also brings up questions about the new "Warm Pink" element colour used for Patrick, which debuted this year. If this cracking issue becomes widespread, it could indicate a more significant problem with the mould itself.
While Jay’s Brick Blog has flagged this with The LEGO Group, they also noted that not all early copies seem affected. Out of four other creators they checked with, their Patrick minifigures were fine, at least for now. This suggests it might not be a universal defect, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
The LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom set (11386) is scheduled for release on September 1, 2026. If you're planning to pick it up, be sure to inspect your Patrick Star minifigure closely once it arrives. Let's hope this is just a minor hiccup and not a widespread problem that will plague these cheerful characters.
