LEGO PlayStation 1 (72306): The 90s Console Lives Again

Your wallet called. It's having a minor existential crisis over the new LEGO PlayStation 1 (72306). LEGO and Sony have teamed up to bring back the iconic grey box that defined gaming for a generation, and yes, it's a brick-built replica of the original 1994 console. This isn't some small desk ornament either; it’s a near 1:1 scale model, measuring over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. That’s big enough to make you feel like you’re back in the 90s, fumbling for the power button.

The set packs 1,911 pieces and is aimed squarely at adults, rated 18+. It boasts functional buttons and even a buildable controller that plugs into the console. But the real nostalgia trip comes from the hidden compartments. Pop open the console, and you'll find two miniature dioramas: one from Gran Turismo with tiny race cars, and another from Ape Escape featuring a monkey helmet scene. These little builds can be displayed inside or pulled out separately. It’s a clever touch that adds a layer of interactive detail, tapping directly into those core gaming memories.

However, the choice of the original controller over the later DualShock is a point of contention for some, especially since Ape Escape required the DualShock. The diorama design also raises a few eyebrows, with some fans preferring micro-scale characters over specific scenes. Still, the overall execution of the console itself seems impressive, capturing that unmistakable '90s aesthetic.

The LEGO PlayStation 1 (72306) launches for LEGO Insiders on October 1, 2026, with a general release on October 4. It’s available at LEGO.com, LEGO Stores, and select retailers.

Watch LEGO.com/PlayStation for availability, and check MyBrickHouse and Toycra for potential local stock, though expect a 4–6 week lag from the global launch. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

While the nostalgia factor is high and the build looks detailed, the estimated price point makes this a definite WAIT. It’s a premium display piece for dedicated fans, but whether it’s worth the significant investment will depend on your personal connection to the original PlayStation and your tolerance for that price tag.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.

Updated 1 Oct 2026: estimated price removed; official Indian pricing not yet announced.
