LEGO MOC: Colourful Aztec Temple Inspired by Ancient Deities and Modern Builders

LEGO builders are always finding new ways to combine old ideas. The latest example is a fantastic MOC of an Aztec temple, a creation that pulls inspiration from multiple sources. It’s a reminder that the LEGO community is less about competition and more about building on each other’s work.

This particular temple is the brainchild of Nannan Zhang, a builder who has been refining the concept for about five years. The initial idea was to take Bruce Lowell's optical illusion, the "bottomless pit," and transform it into a Mesoamerican structure. That alone would have been impressive, but Nannan didn't stop there.

The intricate patterns adorning the temple's exterior are made using interlocking rail plates, a technique first showcased by Piotr Hofman over a decade ago. These elements come together to form a visually striking base. However, the true showstopper is the feathered serpent, Quetzalcoatl, rearing out of the top. This addition was directly inspired by Donny Chen's well-known golden dragon build. It’s a beautiful fusion of ancient mythology and modern LEGO artistry, proving that a great build can spark even greater ones.

This MOC highlights the collaborative spirit of LEGO building. Nannan’s work stands as proof of how community creations can fuel new projects. We can only imagine what builders will create next, inspired by this colourful temple.

No official LEGO set number or price is available for this MOC. If a similar creation were to be released as an official set, expect it to cost roughly the same as 18 months of Netflix Premium. MyBrickHouse and Toycra will be the stores to watch for any official Aztec-themed sets, but availability and pricing for MOC-inspired sets can vary wildly. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. Keep building, keep dreaming... And don't let your wallet see your LEGO wishlist.

On that bombshell, bubyee.
