LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade: A Playable Machine is Coming

LEGO has officially unveiled the 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade set, and it’s a whole lot more than just a display piece. This is a fully functional, playable arcade machine, celebrating the debut of Donkey Kong, Mario, and Pauline. If you remember pumping coins into these cabinets back in the day, get ready for some serious nostalgia.

The set boasts 1,367 pieces and aims to replicate the experience of the 1981 arcade hit. Designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, the original Donkey Kong game is legendary, and LEGO seems to have captured that spirit. The build includes a mechanism that allows you to actually play the game, simulating the classic platforming action. It’s an ambitious project, and the execution looks promising, especially for fans of retro gaming and the early days of Nintendo.

This isn't the first time LEGO has ventured into playable arcade machines. We’ve seen similar concepts before, but the Donkey Kong theme is a significant draw. The iconic characters and the game’s historical importance make this a highly anticipated release. It’s a blend of building, gaming, and history, all wrapped up in those familiar LEGO bricks. The inclusion of playable mechanics adds a layer of engagement that goes beyond static models. The sheer detail in replicating the arcade cabinet, down to the joystick and buttons, is impressive. It’s a model that invites interaction, not just admiration.

The US retail price is set at US$249.99. Given the complexity and the playable feature, this price point feels justified for what's on offer, assuming the gameplay holds up. It’s a substantial set, both in piece count and potential display impact.

It’s now sold in India; today’s price is on its set page. MyBrickHouse and Toycra will likely stock this 4–6 weeks after the global launch. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

While the price is significant, the unique playable nature of the arcade machine makes it a standout item for collectors and gamers alike. It’s a conversation starter, a piece of playable art, and a tribute to a gaming icon. Whether it's worth the investment will depend on how well the gameplay holds up and your personal connection to the Donkey Kong legacy. For now, it’s a strong contender for one of the most interesting LEGO releases of the year.

WAIT

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.

On that bombshell, bubyee.

Correction (3 October 2026): we removed a US price, and any rupee figure worked out from it, because it isn't the Indian price.
