Happy Hippos Get Hoola Hoops: A New Fan Build Surfaces

Cecilie Fritzvold is back with another Happy Hippo creation, and this time, our amphibious friends are getting into shape with a hoola hoop. This is the fourth Happy Hippo build we’ve seen from Fritzvold, following her previous gym rat hippo. If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s, you probably remember the tiny, collectible figures from Kinder Eggs. These hippos were everywhere, often depicted in various costumes and scenarios. This latest build taps into that nostalgia, imagining a hippo getting its groove on with a hoola hoop.

The fan-built model showcases Fritzvold’s usual flair for character design. She’s employed clever techniques, using rubber bands and flex tubes to create the dynamic pose and the hoola hoop itself. The shaping of the hippo looks as impressive as ever, capturing that familiar, rounded look that fans will recognize. It’s a delightful blend of nostalgic charm and modern LEGO building skill. The Brothers Brick, where the build was featured, noted the clever part usage and expressed hope that this means the Happy Hippo theme might continue in fan creations.

While this isn't an official LEGO set, it’s a fantastic example of what fans can create. It reminds us of the simple joy these little figures brought us. It also highlights how LEGO building has evolved, with builders now using specialized elements and techniques to bring even the most playful ideas to life. We can only hope LEGO sees this kind of creativity and perhaps considers bringing back some beloved characters, or at least inspires new ones.

No official Indian pricing or availability details are available for this fan-built creation. If a similar official set were to be released, based on the complexity and part usage, you could expect it to cost around ₹3,000 to ₹4,000. That's about the same as 15 large tubs of ice cream or a decent weekend getaway. MyBrickHouse and Toycra would likely be the first places to check for any official releases, though this specific build is currently only a fan creation. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

Keep building, keep dreaming... And don't let your wallet see your LEGO wishlist.

On that bombshell, bubyee.
