The BrickLink Designer Program keeps rolling out some serious nostalgia bombs, and the Wild West Blacksmith (910071) is no exception. This 2,533-piece behemoth from prolific designer llucky promises a deep dive into the dusty streets of the Old West. While the price point might make your wallet sweat a little, the sheer detail and clever building techniques on display suggest this might be more than just another plastic building.

This Western structure is substantial, measuring a solid 46cm across. The visual design strikes a great balance between gritty realism and attractive display colours, with a thoughtful mix of muted browns and greys contrasted by dark red accents. The covered porch, complete with a dark blue rocking chair that actually rocks, is a nice touch. The exterior features subtle variations in wood colour, preventing it from looking too uniform, and the cacti are a definite improvement over previous Western sets. The sign on the blacksmith's false front, adorned with hammers, adds to the authentic feel.

llucky has managed to pack an impressive amount of detail into the exterior, with the side and rear walls continuing the theme. Even a brick-built sign and surrounding plants add to the scene. A windmill stands proudly outside, and while its slender legs might seem a bit precarious, the construction is surprisingly sturdy. The mismatched blades are a fantastic visual element. Inside, the blacksmith’s workshop is a treasure trove of accessories. You can see kitchenware, tools hanging on a rack, and even a crate full of cannonballs ready for action.

The roof lifts off easily, revealing a well-appointed interior. The sliding door, connecting the workshop to the main building, is a neat functional element. The ground-level stonework looks excellent, and llucky’s attention to small details, like a barrel of metal bars, is evident throughout. The forge itself is a showstopper, ingeniously linked to the windmill. A simple turn of the windmill blades or a base knob activates the bellows, the hearth flames, and a lathe. Even clearing ash from the hearth is possible thanks to a sliding grate.

The roof is another highlight, a complex assembly of dark bluish grey, black, dark orange, medium nougat, and dark tan elements that perfectly capture a worn, weathered look while remaining colourful. The attached water tower, complete with a sticker, is a great finishing touch. Inside, the tiled floor and various furniture pieces create a lived-in atmosphere. The dark blue upholstery on the chair by the door is particularly eye-catching, and the use of pennants for curtains is a clever design choice. Even the back of the sliding door has clips for holding more accessories.

While the build is enjoyable, it’s worth noting that some earlier Western-themed sets from the BrickLink Designer Program had issues with fragile building techniques. Thankfully, this blacksmith seems to have avoided those pitfalls, offering a sturdy and satisfying construction experience. The sheer level of detail, the integrated functions, and the overall aesthetic make this set a standout.

Official Indian pricing hasn't been announced yet. LEGO.in and Toycra are the stores to watch — Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. If this were officially sold in India, it would cost roughly the same as 18 months of Netflix Premium, assuming LEGO India's usual enthusiasm for your wallet.

This set is a strong contender for anyone who loves Western themes or just appreciates detailed, functional LEGO builds. The piece count is substantial, and the value proposition, given the complexity and detail, seems quite good. However, without confirmed Indian pricing, it’s hard to give a definitive BUY NOW. The potential for a high import price means waiting for official channels or a significant deal is the sensible approach.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.

Standard disclaimer: if you're rich, you can skip the verdict and just buy it. The rest of us will be here doing math before we hit checkout.
