LEGO Wallace & Gromit (21371): Worth ₹9,500?

Your wallet is already bracing for impact. The LEGO Ideas Wallace & Gromit set, number 21371, is landing with an official Indian MRP of ₹9,500. That’s a significant dent before you even see what you’re getting. We’re talking about 1038 pieces of British claymation charm, a theme many of us grew up with. The excitement is real, but the price tag? That’s a whole other story.

This set, the 80th from the Ideas line, attempts to capture the unique, slightly wonky charm of Wallace and Gromit. From what we can gather, the build seems to lean into the characters' distinctive aesthetic, translating their plasticine origins into plastic bricks. The challenge for any LEGO adaptation of such iconic characters is always to hit that sweet spot between recognisable likeness and LEGO’s blocky nature. Early impressions suggest this set does a commendable job, especially with the vehicle builds, which are often a strong suit for LEGO Ideas. The source material itself offers so much visual character, and it’s clear the designers have put effort into translating that.

The build experience itself is reported to be satisfying. It’s not just about the final model; it’s about the journey. With 1038 pieces, there’s a decent amount of construction involved, offering enough engagement to keep you occupied without becoming tedious. The use of interesting building techniques and clever part usage is a hallmark of good LEGO sets, and this one appears to follow suit. It’s the kind of build that makes you appreciate the brick as a medium for creativity, something LEGO Ideas sets often excel at.

Aardman Animations’ creations are beloved for their humour and endearing characters. Wallace, the eccentric inventor with a penchant for cheese, and Gromit, his intelligent, resourceful canine companion, have a special place in many hearts. Translating that warmth and personality into a LEGO set is no small feat. While the set number is 21371, no minifigure details have been released yet, which is a shame. Minifigures are often a major draw for character-based sets, and it’s hard to judge the full appeal without knowing who or what is included. However, the focus seems to be on the larger models and the overall scene, which can work if executed well.

The sheer number of pieces for the price is something to consider. At ₹9,500 for 1038 pieces, it’s not exactly breaking the bank on a per-piece basis, but it’s still a premium product. This is where the "WAIT" verdict really kicks in. LEGO Ideas sets often command a higher price due to their unique nature and fan-driven origins, but the initial MRP needs to be justified by the final product. For fans of Wallace & Gromit, the emotional value might be immense, but for the average LEGO shopper, it’s a significant investment.

Official Indian pricing hasn't been announced yet, but the MRP is set at ₹9,500. This is enough to cover about 20 months of Netflix Premium. Official Indian pricing hasn't been announced yet. LEGO.in and Toycra will likely stock it 4–6 weeks after global launch. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

Ultimately, the LEGO Ideas Wallace & Gromit set (21371) promises a strong dose of nostalgia and a well-crafted build. The aesthetic translation from stop-motion to brick seems successful, and the piece count offers good value for the building experience. However, the ₹9,500 MRP puts it firmly in the "consider carefully" category. It’s a set that will undoubtedly delight fans of the franchise, but the price means most of us will be waiting for a sale or a more favourable price point. The lack of concrete minifigure details also leaves a bit of uncertainty. If you're a die-hard Wallace & Gromit fan, you might be tempted to jump in now, but for most, patience will be rewarded.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
