LEGO Transformers: Soundwave (10358): Worth ₹19,999?

ByAbhinav Bhargav·Founder, Bricks of India·Published 12 July 2026·Updated 26 July 2026

Your wallet is probably already bracing itself for the LEGO Transformers onslaught. They’ve been teasing us with Optimus Prime, and now Soundwave is here to join the party. This isn't just a toy; it's a piece of nostalgia rendered in plastic bricks, and at ₹19,999, it’s definitely aiming for your collector's shelf and your savings account. But does it hold up to the hype, or is it just another expensive display piece?

Let’s talk about the build. It’s a pretty standard affair for these large-scale UCS-style sets. You’re mostly dealing with Technic bricks and pins, building up a solid internal frame. It’s satisfying in a methodical way, like assembling a piece of machinery. The instructions are clear, and the bags are well-organized, which is a given for a set at this price point. You’ll spend a good few hours putting it together, and the final result is a surprisingly robust model. It feels solid, which is important when you’re dealing with something this size.

The design team has done a commendable job capturing Soundwave’s iconic look. The proportions are mostly spot-on, and the key details are all there: the chest speaker, the arm-mounted blaster, the helmet. It’s instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up with Generation 1 Transformers. The colour scheme is also accurate, with that signature blue, grey, and black.

Where it gets a bit… shaky, is the articulation and playability. This is primarily a display model. While Soundwave can move his arms and head, don't expect dynamic posing. The joints are a bit stiff, and there’s only so much you can do before you start worrying about breaking something. It’s not a set you’ll be transforming back and forth repeatedly. It’s meant to sit on a shelf and look good.

And look good it does. The scale is impressive, giving it a commanding presence. It’s large enough to be a statement piece without being so enormous that you need a dedicated room. The inclusion of a small cassette tape mode for the figure is a nice touch, a nod to the original toy’s gimmick. It’s a clever bit of engineering that adds to the nostalgic appeal. However, the tape mode is very basic and doesn't really do much. It’s more of a static accessory than a playable feature.

The big elephant in the room, as always, is the price. ₹19,999 is a significant chunk of change. For that money, you’re getting a lot of bricks, yes, but you’re also paying for the license and the nostalgia factor. Compared to other large display sets, it’s not outrageously overpriced, but it’s also not a bargain. You’re definitely paying a premium to have this specific character in brick form. If Soundwave is your absolute favourite Decepticon, you might justify it. For most others, it’s a tough pill to swallow.

The inclusion of the mini-figure of Soundwave in his robot mode is a nice bonus, adding a bit more value. It’s a well-designed mini-figure that complements the larger model. However, it doesn’t really change the fundamental equation: this is an expensive display set.

So, is it worth it? If you’re a die-hard Transformers fan, particularly of G1 Soundwave, and you have the budget, it’s a solid display model that captures the character well. The build is enjoyable, and the final product looks great. But for the average LEGO fan, the price makes it a hard sell. There are other large-scale sets that offer more in terms of build complexity, part variety, or iconic status for a similar or lower price. This is a niche product for a dedicated fanbase.

In India, the LEGO Transformers: Soundwave (10358) is available for ₹19,999 at both MyBrickHouse and Toycra. That’s roughly 10 months of Spotify Premium Family Plan. Use code ABHINAV12 for 12% off on orders above ₹500 at Toycra. MyBrickHouse | Toycra.

Ultimately, the LEGO Transformers: Soundwave set is a good, but not great, display piece. It’s a premium product for a premium price, and its appeal is heavily tied to nostalgia. While the build is solid and the design is accurate, the limited articulation and high cost prevent it from being a must-buy for everyone. It’s a set for the true fans who want to showcase their love for this particular Decepticon.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
