LEGO Custom Police Car Garage (60457): Worth ₹5,449?

LEGO's pitch for the Custom Police Car Garage (60457) is customisation — swap the spoiler, the headlights, the stickers, make the cruiser your own. In practice, it's closer to changing hubcaps on a toy car than the deep creative build the name promises.

This is a 489-piece set, which puts it squarely in the "afternoon project" category. It’s designed for kids aged 6 and up, and that’s pretty evident from the build process. The garage itself is functional, with a working door and space for a couple of vehicles. The main draw here is the customization aspect. You get a police car build that you can modify with different spoilers, headlights, and stickers to make it your own. There are also a couple of minifigures – a police officer and a crook – to populate your scene.

The problem is, the customization feels a bit limited. You can swap out a few pieces on the car, and there are some sticker sheets to add details. But it doesn’t feel like the deep, creative experience that some other LEGO sets offer in this price range. It’s more like putting different colored hubcaps on a toy car. If you’re expecting the level of modularity you’d find in a Speed Champions set, you’ll be disappointed. This is simpler, more geared towards imaginative play for younger builders.

The included police car build is decent enough. It’s a solid, recognizable police cruiser. The garage structure is also fine, providing a backdrop for play. But neither element truly elevates the set beyond what you might expect from a smaller Creator or City offering. It feels like LEGO is trying to capture that custom vehicle trend, but they’ve aimed it at a younger demographic, which inherently limits the complexity.

For the target age group, this set probably hits the mark. Kids can have fun swapping parts and playing out chase scenes. The minifigures are standard but functional. However, for the adult fan or even a slightly older child looking for a more engaging build, the Custom Police Car Garage feels a bit… basic. The piece count is there, but the complexity isn't.

In India, the LEGO Custom Police Car Garage (60457) is available at LEGO.in for ₹5,449 and at Toycra for ₹5,999. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. That's enough to buy 10kg of good quality basmati rice or cover three months of your favourite streaming subscription. LEGO.in | Toycra.

The real question is value. At ₹5,449, it's not a cheap afternoon project. You can get some pretty substantial City or Creator sets for similar money, or even dig into into the more intricate Speed Champions line if you catch a sale. While the customization aspect is the selling point, it doesn't quite justify the price tag for anyone beyond the most dedicated young LEGO police fan. It’s a set that feels like it should be priced closer to the ₹3,000–₹4,000 mark to truly feel like a good deal.

So, who is this for? If you have a younger child (6-8 years old) who is obsessed with police cars and loves the idea of swapping out parts, this might be a decent gift. But for anyone else looking for a more substantial build, a more creative outlet, or a better price-to-piece ratio, it’s probably best to wait for a significant discount — and at ₹5,449, it's already about 9% under MRP, so that discount has effectively arrived.

Keep building, keep dreaming... And don't let your wallet see your LEGO wishlist.
