LEGO Creative Dollhouse Suitcase (42697): Worth ₹5,499?

Your wallet called. It wants to discuss the LEGO Creative Dollhouse Suitcase. This isn't just a toy; it's a statement piece that screams "I have disposable income and a penchant for pink luggage." And at ₹5,499, it’s a statement many of us will pause before making. This 355-piece set, number 42697, takes the concept of portable LEGO play and plasters it in a shade of pink that could rival a flamingo’s blush.

This is, apparently, a larger and significantly pinker version of last year's 42672 Creative Beach and Travel Suitcase. If you thought suitcases were a niche within the Friends theme, apparently LEGO disagrees. The core idea is simple: a functional suitcase that doubles as a playset. You build furniture and rooms, snap them onto the floor pieces, and close the whole thing up. The hinge and clasp mechanism seem robust enough for actual travel, which is a neat trick. The floor pieces slot in securely, ensuring that your meticulously arranged miniature avocado toast and abstract art installations don't get jumbled during transit.

Inside, you get eight numbered bags, four instruction books (a bit much for 355 pieces, but standard for Friends sets aimed at younger builders), and two sticker sheets that, as the reviewer noted, are a bit curled. The set includes two minidolls: Liann and Nova. They’re wearing familiar outfits, which is fine, but for the price and piece count, expecting only two characters feels a bit stingy. You’d think with a dollhouse theme, there’d be more of a cast.

The suitcase itself is a bright pink and purple affair, with the Friends logo subtly embossed. The clasp looks secure, and the reviewer believes it would hold up to travel. The depth of the suitcase is the key innovation here, allowing the floor pieces to sit flush and enabling the case to close without crushing the builds. Each room is a mini-build with various accessories, encouraging customization. We get a hallway with a mirror, a living room with a TV (showing a game with no buttons, naturally), Liann’s room with an art table and a portrait of Bubbles the axolotl, a garden area with a sun lounger and a tiny pool, a kitchen stocked for breakfast, and Nova’s room with a computer and unicorn art. The garden also features flower beds. It’s a lot of miniature detail packed into a small space.

However, the reviewer’s mild disappointment with the primary colour choice – preferring last year's teal – is understandable. Pink is divisive, and while it fits the Friends aesthetic, it might alienate some potential buyers. The build experience is straightforward, as expected for the target audience. The rooms snap in nicely, and the accessories are charming. But for an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO), the appeal is limited. It’s a portable dollhouse, not a display piece or a complex building challenge. The value-for-pieces isn't particularly high, and the reliance on stickers for detail is standard but never ideal.

At ₹5,499, this is the cost of roughly six weeks of gym membership or 11kg of decent Alphonso mangoes. MyBrickHouse and Toycra both list it at this price, though MyBrickHouse may be out of stock. Use code ABHINAV12 for 12% off on orders above ₹500 at Toycra.

While the portability factor is genuinely cool, and kids will likely adore turning this into their travel companion, the price point feels a bit steep for what is essentially a collection of small builds within a plastic case. The limited number of minidolls and the very specific aesthetic might also be drawbacks. It's a fun concept, executed reasonably well, but it’s hard to recommend at full price unless you have a specific need for a LEGO-themed travel case for a young fan. Wait for a sale.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
