LEGO Comic Book and Game Store (42674): Worth ₹9,999?

Your wallet screamed when it saw the price, didn't it? The LEGO Comic Book and Game Store (42674) lands with a retail price that feels more like a collector's item than a playful downtown building. For ₹9,999, you're not just buying bricks; you're investing in a piece of LEGO nostalgia that might just be a bit too expensive for its own good.

This set aims to capture the vibrant, slightly chaotic energy of a classic comic book and game store. It’s a modular-style building, which is always a plus for fans looking to expand their LEGO city. The exterior features colourful signage, display windows showcasing some neat accessories, and an overall inviting facade. It’s the kind of building that adds character to any LEGO streetscape, and the inclusion of a comic book store alongside a game shop is a clever, niche concept that appeals to a specific kind of collector.

Inside, the detail continues. You get shelves stocked with miniature comic books (printed tiles, of course), board games stacked precariously, and a counter area. There are minifigures too, including a shop owner and customers, each with unique accessories that fit the theme. The comic book tiles are a highlight, featuring printed designs that look authentic. The game selection, while smaller, adds to the atmosphere. It’s these little touches that make the set feel alive and give it that authentic shop vibe.

The build experience itself is what you’d expect from a set of this size and complexity. It’s not overly challenging, but there are some interesting building techniques involved, particularly in constructing the facade and the interior details. The modular nature means you can easily integrate it with other LEGO buildings, offering a good degree of playability and display flexibility. It’s a satisfying build, but perhaps not groundbreaking.

However, the elephant in the room is the price. At ₹9,999, this set is entering premium territory. While it offers a good number of pieces and some unique printed elements, the overall value proposition feels a bit strained. You can find larger, more complex sets for a similar price, or even less, depending on sales. For a building that, while detailed, isn't exactly enormous, the cost per piece is quite high. It feels like you're paying a premium for the theme and the printed tiles, which, while nice, don't entirely justify the ₹9,999 tag for many.

This isn't a set for impulse buyers. It’s for those who specifically love the comic book and gaming aesthetic, or for builders who are deep into expanding their LEGO city with niche businesses. If you’re on a budget or looking for the best bang for your buck in terms of sheer brick count or complexity, this might not be it. It’s a good set, undeniably, but its price point forces a more cautious approach. You'd be wise to wait for a sale or a special offer to bring this particular establishment into your LEGO collection.

LEGO.in has the LEGO Comic Book and Game Store (42674) listed for ₹9,999. That's roughly the price of three months of Netflix Premium, or enough for 18kg of good quality Alphonso mangoes if you catch them in season. Toycra has not listed it yet, so check Toycra for availability. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500.

This set is a charming addition for the right fan, but its price tag makes it a cautious recommendation. It’s a cool concept executed well, but the cost means it’s a buy only if you can find it at a discount or if the theme is an absolute must-have for your collection.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

At review, it was priced at ₹9,999 on LEGO.in. Verdict: WAIT.

Standard disclaimer: rich readers can skip the verdict and just buy it. We'll be over here checking if LEGO.in's HDFC EMI discount makes this hurt less.
