LEGO City Dump Truck & Front End Loader (60494): Worth ₹12,999?

Your wallet just got a workout. Ten thousand pieces. Five feet tall. No, wait, that’s the Eiffel Tower. This one's just over a thousand pieces, but the price is still going to make you pause. The LEGO City Dump Truck & Front End Loader (60494) has landed, and it’s a substantial chunk of construction machinery.

LEGO City construction sets are always a safe bet, a perennial favourite for a reason. They’re relatable, they’re fun, and they usually offer a decent build. This year, we get three new construction-themed sets, and this one, the 60494, is the third-largest. It packs in two distinct vehicles: a dump truck and a front-end loader. Think of it as a two-for-one deal, a classic LEGO City move. The reviewer notes that these are "well-designed, complementary earthmoving machines," which is exactly what you want.

The build itself is spread across three instruction booklets. You start with the site office and a building site sign, then move onto the dump truck, and finally, the front-end loader. The site office is a nice touch, a little piece of world-building that adds context. It even opens up to reveal an interior, complete with stickers for the details. Speaking of stickers, there’s a medium-sized sheet, but thankfully, they’re only for the office interior. The vehicles themselves rely on printed elements, which is always a win.

Now, the parts. 1132 pieces. That’s a solid count for a City set, especially one with two vehicles. The reviewer specifically calls out the ten large tyres (49.53 x 20) as a significant inclusion, packed neatly into two bags. There’s also a unique bucket element in dark stone grey, seen in only one other set, which is a neat bonus for MOC builders.

The minifigures are where City often shines, and this set doesn’t disappoint. You get three civil engineering minifigures, and one of them brings their pug dog to work. Adorable. The office worker has a unique torso with a light royal blue shirt, white singlet, and red braces, plus dual-molded red hard hat and hair. Her trousers have printed pockets and green knee pads. She also has dual expressions and comes with a 1x2 tile featuring a printed smartphone – a nice detail. The dump truck driver sports a Fred Finley moustache and a reddish-orange safety jacket with reflective stripes, plus medium stone grey gloves. All three figures share the same style of trousers, which is a common element across the set.

The play features are plentiful, as expected. The site office opens up, the dump truck can unload its cargo, and the front-end loader has an engine compartment that lifts open. This is what LEGO City is all about: direct playability. The set also includes a "moderate pile of boulders" to move around.

The core question for any LEGO fan in India is always about the price and availability. At ₹12,999 from MyBrickHouse, this is a significant investment for a City set. While the piece count is high and the build quality is praised, it’s still a considerable outlay.

At ₹12,999 from MyBrickHouse, that's 18 months of Spotify Premium or a decent return flight to Goa. Toycra will likely stock this 4–6 weeks after the global launch. Use code ABHINAV12 for 12% off on orders above ₹500 at Toycra.

Considering the quality of the build, the two substantial vehicles, the good minifigure selection, and the printed elements, the set itself is very strong. The reviewer calls it "very well designed" and highlights the "enormous amount of play features." However, that Indian price point is a tough one. It’s a great set, no doubt. But is it a BUY NOW at this price? Probably not. Wait for a sale, or perhaps a deal from Toycra once it lands. For now, it’s a solid recommendation if you can stomach the initial cost, but a WAIT is the sensible verdict for most.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
