The wallet feels a tremor. LEGO Speed Champions 77264 Jaguar Project 7 & Land Rover Defender is here, and it’s priced at ₹5,999. Two distinct vehicles, one box. That’s the pitch. But does it deliver enough plastic joy to justify the damage?
This set is, as the name suggests, a double-header. We get the Jaguar Project 7, a sleek, low-slung sports car, and the Land Rover Defender, a boxy, rugged off-roader. They couldn’t be more different in design philosophy, and the builds reflect that. The Jaguar build uses some clever SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques to achieve its smooth curves. It’s a satisfying build, if a little repetitive in places. The designers have clearly worked hard to capture the essence of the real car, and for the most part, they’ve succeeded. The colour scheme is striking, and the printed elements add a nice touch of detail without being overdone.
Then there’s the Defender. This one is all about sharp angles and imposing presence. It’s a much chunkier build, and you’ll be using a lot of Technic bricks and pins to get that sturdy frame. It feels more like a construction project than a sleek model. The interior details are minimal, which is understandable given the real-world vehicle’s utilitarian nature, but it does mean the focus is entirely on the exterior. Again, the printed pieces here are well-executed, adding authentic touches like the grille and badging.
The two minifigures included are standard Speed Champions fare. Nothing revolutionary, but they fit the theme and add a bit of life to the display. The set boasts 747 pieces, which is a decent count for two vehicles, especially considering the varying complexities of their designs. However, the piece count doesn’t tell the whole story; the quality and type of pieces used are what really matter. There are a few interesting recolours here, which will appeal to some builders, but nothing that feels truly groundbreaking.
The real question for any Speed Champions fan in India is value. At ₹5,999, this isn’t a cheap set. While you do get two distinct models, the build experience for each is quite different. The Jaguar is the more aesthetically pleasing, while the Defender offers a more robust, if less elegant, construction. Neither feels like an absolute must-have unless you’re a die-hard fan of either specific vehicle. The 2026 release year means it’s fresh on the shelves, and LEGO isn’t exactly known for slashing prices on Speed Champions sets soon after launch.
At ₹5,999, that's nearly 10kg of premium basmati rice or about three months of Netflix Premium. Toycra has it for ₹5,999. LEGO.in has not listed it yet. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. Expect a 4–6 week lag from global launch.
Looking at the build techniques and the final models, it’s a solid set, but not a spectacular one. The contrast between the two cars is its main selling point, but it also means that if you don't love both types of vehicles, you might find yourself less engaged with one of the builds. For the price, you’d hope for something that truly wows, either in build complexity, part utility, or sheer display presence. This set offers a bit of everything, but doesn’t quite excel in any one area enough to warrant an immediate purchase at full price. Wait for a sale if these particular cars are on your radar.
On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.
Verdict: WAIT. Good set, but the price will drop.
Standard disclaimer: if you're rich, you can skip the verdict and just buy it. The rest of us will be here doing math before we hit checkout.
