LEGO 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) Car (42210): Worth ₹15,499?

Your wallet just got a reminder of that time you spent way too much on a limited edition collectible. The LEGO 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) Car (42210) is here, and it’s not exactly cheap. This set, number 42210, taps into the nostalgia of a generation that grew up with tuner cars and illegal street races on the big screen. It’s a faithful recreation of Paul Walker’s iconic ride from the second movie, and if you’re a fan, you’ve probably already hit ‘add to cart’ in your head.

Let’s talk about the build. It’s a Speed Champions set, which means you’re getting a 6-stud wide car. This scale has always been a bit of a compromise. On one hand, it allows for a decent level of detail and playability. On the other, it means some proportions can feel a little off. For the R34 GT-R, LEGO has done a commendable job capturing its aggressive stance. The blue paint job, the racing stripes, the spoiler – it’s all there. The stickers are plentiful, which is par for the course with Speed Champions, and applying them requires a steady hand. Some might find the sticker count a bit much, but without them, the car would lose a lot of its character. The printed elements, like the headlights and taillights, are well-done.

The actual building experience is what you’d expect from a Speed Champions set. It’s engaging enough, with some interesting SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques used to achieve the car’s curves. The interior is basic, fitting two minifigures, but this is a display piece for most fans, not a race track simulator. The wheels are standard Speed Champions fare, and the overall construction feels solid once completed. It’s a satisfying build, but it’s not going to challenge experienced builders with groundbreaking techniques. It’s more about the final result than the journey.

Now, the elephant in the room: the price. At ₹15,499 from LEGO.in, this set is pushing the upper limits for Speed Champions. You're paying a premium for the license and the iconic status of the car. It feels like LEGO is increasingly pricing these licensed vehicles higher, and while the R34 GT-R is a highly desirable car, the price point might make some fans pause. For that money, you could get a much larger, more complex LEGO set that isn't a 6-stud wide car. It’s a tough pill to swallow if you’re not a die-hard fan.

Compared to other Speed Champions sets, this one sits at the higher end. Is it worth it? If you’re a massive fan of 2 Fast 2 Furious and the R34, then yes, it’s a must-have. The detail and accuracy are impressive for the scale. However, if you’re just looking for a good LEGO car build at a reasonable price, there are plenty of other Speed Champions sets that offer better value. This feels more like a collector's item than an everyday Speed Champions purchase. The build is good, the car is iconic, but the price is a significant hurdle.

LEGO.in has this for ₹15,499, while Toycra lists it at ₹16,999. Code ABHINAV12 takes 12% off full-price sets at Toycra, minimum order ₹500. That's enough to fuel your car for about 20 full tanks of petrol. LEGO.in | Toycra.

The verdict here is clear: if you absolutely need this car in LEGO form and the Fast & Furious franchise is your jam, then go for it. But if you’re on the fence, or if your budget is a concern, I’d suggest waiting for a sale or a significant price drop. There are better value propositions in the Speed Champions line if you’re not solely focused on this specific vehicle. This is a set for the dedicated fan, not the casual builder.

On that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye. I'll see you on the next one. Bubyee.

At review, it was priced at ₹12,749 on Toycra (₹15,499 on LEGO.in). Verdict: WAIT.

Standard disclaimer: rich readers can skip the verdict and just buy it. We'll be over here checking if LEGO.in's HDFC EMI discount makes this hurt less.
